ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan Director of Athletics,
Bob Segave announced on Monday that
Lance Davis will take over as the next head coach for the men's golf team. Davis takes over after long-time head coach Ken Starkweather resigned in May following the completion of the 2018-2019 season. Starkweather coached the team for 17 years.
"We are pleased to add coaching to Lance's current role in athletics as Assistant Athletic Director," said Segave. "Lance will be a great coach and resource for the team and I look forward to seeing how he leads the guys. Lance is very passionate about coaching and being a mentor for this team."
The Roberts' athletics department and golf team is a familiar sight for Davis as he has worked for the Redhawks as the Assistant Athletic Director since 2015. For the past two seasons, Davis has served as a volunteer assistant coach for the golf team. In his first year assisting with the team the Redhawks had its most successful season in program history, winning the Atlantic/East Regional tournament and advancing on to the NCAA Division II National Championships.
"Working with the guys on the golf team has been a great experience over the last couple of years and I am excited for this opportunity," Davis said. "We have a great group of guys and I'm ready to get to work with them for the season ahead."
Davis will continue to work in his daily role as Assistant AD, but will assume all responsibilities as head golf coach as well. He will begin his duties as golf coach on Monday, August 26.
The men's golf team is set to tee off at its first tournament on September 22
nd at the Mercyhurst Invitational.
