ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team kicked off East Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. The Redhawks are now 3-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the ECC.
In front of a stand full of fans for Roberts' homecoming matchup the Redhawks delivered an early goal to take the lead in the eighth minute of play. Sophomore
Dylan Ruiz scored his first of two goals in the game off a feed from
Terrell Spencer.
The 1-0 lead carried through the first half and in the 72nd minute, senior
Juan Ospina-Betancurt put the Redhawks up 2-0, getting his first goal of the season. Senior
Dan Reger had the assist on the goal.
Finally, in the 89th minute Ruiz notched his second goal of the game with Betancurt providing the feed from a low cross on the right side of the field.
Roberts held the Spartans to only two shots on goal the entire match while the Redhawks got seven shots on frame.
The Redhawks will take one game off from conference action with a game on Wednesday at Stonehill College before returning home on Saturday, Oct. 5th for a ECC matchup against Queens.
