Women's Soccer Falls to Le Moyne in Season Opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team fell in a fierce battle against the Le Moyne Dolphins. The game concluded 3-1 in favor of Le Moyne College on Thursday night.

The Redhawks took the first lead of the game in the 31st minute following a goal by freshman Olivia Grande, the first of her collegiate career. The goal was assisted by Genevieve Palmer.

Roberts looked to be set to head into the halftime break with a 1-0 margin but the Dolphins then answered with one second to spare in the first half off a goal from junior forward Madison Vine.

In the second half Le Moyne freshman Amya Naja, assisted by Alexandria Greco, brought the score to 2-1 in the 66th minute. That goal proved to be the game-winner. Late into the second half, Greco advanced the Dolphins once more with an insurance goal at the 85 minute mark.

Roberts Wesleyan racked up a total of nine shots on goal, four of which came from Palmer. Le Moyne had ten total shots and six on frame.

In the net for 90 minutes was goalkeeper Kelsey Brinkel. The senior had a total of three saves during the game against the visitors.

The women's soccer team will be back in action this Sunday, September 7th against the Urbana Knights.  Kickoff is at 12 p.m.
