FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team couldn't find the range Friday evening in an East Coast Conference road game against Queens as Roberts fell, 79-59.
A difficult first half left the Redhawks searching for answers on offense, but it was too late as Queens built a sizable lead early on. Roberts could not find the bottom of the net, scoring just five points in the first 14 minutes of the game. The Knights used the Redhawks' poor shooting to their advantage by grabbing a 24 point lead.
Roberts was able to get a glimpse of offense late in the first half in order to keep the game in check, but at the half Queens led 41-19. The Redhawks shot 7-of-28 (25%) from the field and 0-for-12 from 3-point range in the first half. The Knights shot nearly 60-percent from the field in the half.
The Redhawks outscored Queens in the second half 40-38 but the damage was already done in the opening stanza which allowed the Knights to use clock to their advantage.
Amari Lee scored 16 points to lead Roberts. For Queens, Shomari Redd came off the bench to score 25 points.
Roberts falls to 3-18 overall and 0-10 in the ECC. The team will be at Bridgeport on Sunday for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
