BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Roberts Wesleyan College women's volleyball team was three points away from winning the first two sets against the University of Bridgeport, but the Purple Knights rallied for a 27-25 win in the second game and went on to defeat the Redhawks 3-1 in a closely contested East Coast Conference match.
Roberts (1-17, 0-8 ECC) captured the first set 28-26 before Bridgeport ran off three straight by scores of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-21.
"Each match we are fighting for second-chance attacks and pride in our blocking is building as well," Roberts coach
Doug Porterfield said.
Graduate student
Emily Rowlison, who closed the first game with a kill, paced Roberts with nine kills, two blocks and 14 points. Rowlison hit .750 and did not have an error in 12 swings.
Celine Malosa and
Laura Amaya contributed each contributed eight kills. Malosa had a number of positive touches and registered 10 points. Amaya led Roberts in swings with 26 and accounted for 9.5 points.
Madison Truong led Roberts with 29 assists and six aces.
Roberts returns home to host Daemen College in an ECC match at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Voller Athletic Center.
