Redhawks Run Win Streak To Five

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Give them five.
Second-half goals by Gabrielle Ciambella and StevieLyn Diggory powered the Roberts Wesleyan College women's soccer team to its fifth straight victory, a 3-1 non-conference win over Bluefield State College on Monday.
As it did in an ECC win over D'Youville on Saturday, Roberts (5-7-1, 4-3-0 East Coast Conference) kept the play in the offensive half of the field for the majority of the game and eventually pulled away from its opponent.
"It was a tough road win," Roberts head coach Sarah McClellan said. "We didn't play our best soccer but, more importantly, we didn't give up on the game and saw it through to get the result."
Senior Sydney Regan opened the scoring for Roberts, converting an assist from Abigail Sindoni in the 21st minute for her second goal of the season.
Bluefield State evened the match in the 41st minute, setting the stage for a big second half for Roberts.
Ciambella notched her third goal of the season off an assist from Diggory in the 54th minute and Diggory put the match away with her first of the fall in the 88th minute.
Nicolette Knauf and Maddie Franklin split the goalkeeping duties for Roberts, with Franklin making two saves in the second half.
Roberts had 17 shots on goal and limited Bluefield State to three.
The centerback combination of seniors Makenzie Muoio and Haley Cole continues to play well for Roberts, which has given up only two goals during its winning streak.
The Redhawks return to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday for an ECC match at St. Thomas Aquinas.
