ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Night in style on Thursday.
After honoring
Lauren Norwood,
Becca Oldham and
Miranda Rich in a pre-match ceremony, the Redhawks swept past D'Youville 25-19, 25-22, 25-22 for their first East Coast Conference win of the season.
"It finally clicked," Roberts head coach
Doug Porterfield said. "There's a lot of excitement around Senior Night and I think that we were able to take the momentum of playing well against Daemen (on Tuesday) and carry it into tonight."
Norwood had a big night for Roberts (2-18, 1-9 ECC) with a match-best 12 kills and also added 13 points.
"Lauren was on fire tonight," Porterfield said. "She hit some heavy, heavy balls."
Graduate student
Emily Rowlison added 9 kills, 4 blocks and 11 points and
Charlotte Orgill contributed 10 kills and 12.5 points.
Madison Truong led Roberts with 37 assists and
Teagan Weber had 12 digs.
Celine Malosa paced Roberts with five blocks.
"We've been talking all week about focusing on our game and how we are going to score instead of talking about how we were going to try to stop them," Porterfield said.
Porterfield was especially happy for the Redhawk seniors. Rich added 6 kills and 4 digs and Oldham added a kill and a dig for Roberts.
"It felt good to be in it and it felt good to see it through to the end and to put them away in three," Porterfield said.
Roberts plays at Lake Erie College at 6 p.m. Friday in Painesville, Ohio.
