SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A fast start and a strong finish were not enough for the Roberts Wesleyan College women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon.
The Redhawks (2-3) jumped to a quick 13-4 advantage and used a 13-2 spurt in the fourth quarter to pull within six points but ultimately dropped a 61-50 decision to LeMoyne College in a non-conference game.
Senior
Taryn Wilson led Roberts with 16 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore
Toni Neely-Primus added 12 points and sophomore
Georgia Haverlock contributed eight points and seven rebounds.
Roberts stormed to a quick nine-point lead as Wilson,
Danielle DiCintio and Neely-Primus all connected on 3-pointers in the first 5:15 of the first quarter, but the Dolphins held the Redhawks scoreless for the rest of the quarter and took a 14-13 lead after one.
The Dolphins led 29-24 at the half and 48-34 after three quarters. The Dolphins took a 54-37 lead with 6:22 remaining before Roberts rallied.
LeMoyne scored 27 points off turnovers and held a 40-12 advantage in points in the paint.
Roberts connected on 10 of 26 3-pointers (38.5) with Wilson hitting four and Haverlock, Neely-Primus and DiCintio two apiece. DiCintio also had six assists.
Roberts returns to action in its East Coast Conference opener at Daemen College on Dec. 8.
