Redhawks Partner With Pirate Toy Fund

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College men's and women's basketball teams are hosting a doubleheader to benefit the Pirate Toy Fund.
Any fan who brings a new, unwrapped toy to the Redhawks' games against D'Youville at the Voller Athletic Center on Sunday, Dec. 12 will be admitted for free. The women's team plays at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
The Pirate Toy Fund is a nonprofit organization that donates toys to children in need throughout the Rochester area. The initiative is part of the Redhawks Reach Out program.
"Roberts is all about character for education and we really feel that we need to be a big part of the community and participate in as many events like this as we can," Roberts Director of Athletics Bob Segave said. "The Pirate Toy Fund is near and dear to us and just one way that we can connect our heads to our hearts and engage our hands to impact our community."
Segave and student-athletes Justine Sharda and Marc-Anthony Blackburn woke up early to appear on WHAM-TV's "Good Day Rochester" with Alexis Arnold on Friday. The Roberts contingent brought toys to the Kinecta Federal Credit Union in Pittsford and appeared in a live television segment at 5:35 a.m.
"We just love to give back to the community," said Blackburn, who is a member of the men's soccer team. "As Christians, that is what we love to do."
Roberts has been associated with the Pirate Toy Fund since 2011. Student-athletes are scheduled to go to the organization's warehouse and help clean up and sort toys in January.
