Unbeaten Redhawks roll to big win in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Emily Tomei scored five goals on five shots in the first half as the Roberts Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team remained perfect on the season with a 21-2 victory over D'Youville College in an East Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field in Buffalo.

Tomei finished with seven goals and an assist and senior midfielder Lindsey Brinkel added three goals and four assists for the Redhawks (8-0, 4-0 ECC). Brinkel leads Roberts with 58 points (20 goals, 38 assists) this season

Junior attack Madison Bell, the reigning ECC Offensive Player of the Week, continued her roll, scoring all six of her points (1 goal, 5 assists) in the first half for Roberts. Brinkel had two goals and three assists in the opening stanza.

Junior Natalie Arieno stopped three of the five shots she faced to improve her record to 8-0 on the season.

Graduate student Jessica Giancursio, junior Alexis Grant and sophomore Caitlin Harding scored two goals apiece and sophomore Gemme Guy added a goal and an assist.

Three freshmen, Rhiannon Burto, Sophia Podszebka and Victoria Vahl also found the back of the net. Vahl's goal was her first as a college player.

Junior Ellen O'Neil added two assists and Madilynn Walsh led the Redhawks with five ground balls.

Roberts dominated draw controls 17-9 with Tomei and Giancursio winning five apiece. The Redhawks went 12 of 14 on clears and outshot the Saints, 31-7.

The win was the Redhawks' second against the Saints in eight days. Roberts defeated D'Youville 23-4 on April 2.

The Redhawks will host Molloy College in an ECC game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.
