ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team didn't waste time grabbing control of Tuesday's exhibition game against Medaille College scoring in the first three minutes of play en route to a 4-0 win.
Junior
Ethan Leonard had a game-high two goals to lead the Redhawks. It was the first multi-goal game of his career with Roberts. Leonard netted his first goal in the third minute off a feed from junior
Ryan Curtis to give the Redhawks an early 1-0 advantage.
Leonard found the back of the net again just 10 minutes later to give Roberts its third goal of the game when
Dylan Ruiz gathered the ball in front of net following a save by Medaille's goalkeeper. Ruiz dropped it back to Leonard at the top of the box and the Medina, N.Y. native buried the shot from straightaway.
Fitting in between the pair of goals by Leonard, midfielder
Marc-Anthony Blackburn connected on a brilliant free kick opportunity after a handball was called on Medaille 20 yards out from goal. Blackburn cleared the wall and placed the shot in the top left corner of the net.
In the 18th minute the Redhawks added the fourth goal of the game with a goal from
Justin Robertson assisted on by
Tamas Nagy.
The second half went scoreless, but the Redhawks continued to dominate possession and find attacking opportunities.
"It was a good win tonight, said head coach
Scott Reber." We were able to score some goals and get some guys quality time on the field."
Roberts will host D'Youville on Sunday at 2 p.m. for its final home game of the season.
