RACHON’S GOAL LIFTS REDHAWKS INTO TIE WITH GANNON

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Samantha Rachon picked an opportune time to score the first goal of her college career.

Rachon, a freshman defender from Marcy, N.Y., converted a low shot from about 8 yards out in the 83rd minute to lift the Roberts Wesleyan College women's soccer team into a 2-2 tie with visiting Gannon on Saturday night.

Junior Mackenzie Muoio picked up her first assist of the season on the play for Roberts (3-0-1).

Freshman Abigail Sindoni also scored for the Redhawks, registering her second goal of the season in the 42nd minute.

Gannon got on the board first with a goal in the 24th minute on a goal by Taylor Lewis and took a 2-1 on a penalty kick by Kayla Bevacqua in the 57th.

Roberts outshot the Golden Eagles 20-10 and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Junior defender Haley Cole led Roberts with five shots.

Junior Madison Papaj made six saves for the Redhawks.

Roberts defeated Gannon 1-0 on a goal by Olivia Grande on March 21.

Saturday night's game marked the final home contest for seniors Allison ParselsAlana Montreal and Selena Beller. The three other seniors on the team (Emily Romig, Dejah Cooper, and Madison Lamarche) who opted out this spring were honored by the team in the fall.

The Redhawks return to action on Wednesday, April 24 for a 7 p.m. game at D'Youville.
