Redhawks Roll Past Bridgeport on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Less than 48 hours after the biggest win in program history, the Roberts Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day in grand fashion.

The Redhawks, who are ranked 15th in the latest U.S. Lacrosse Division II poll, built a 16-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 23-2 win over visiting Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference game.

Roberts (11-0), who rallied to defeat No. 8 Grand Valley State 12-9 on Thursday, received goals from 13 different players, with seniors Lindsey Brinkel and Taylor Nathan and junior Alexis Grant leading the way with three apiece.

Brinkel also added three assists to pace the Redhawks with six points. Senior Emily Tomei, who had two goals and three assists, and junior Madison Bell, who contributed a goal and four assists.

Graduate student Jessica Giancursio contributed two goals and an assist and sophomore Gemme Guy and freshman Rhiannon Burto each added two goals.

Senior Kelsey Simmons registered a goal and two assists while junior Ellen O'Neil, sophomore Caitlin Harding and freshman Sophia Podszebka all chipped in a goal and an assist. Podszebka also led Roberts with eight draw controls. Freshman Victoria Vahl also scored for Roberts.

Junior Natalie Arieno stopped six of the eight shots she faced for the Redhawks.

Roberts had 30 shots on goal, compared to eight for Bridgeport, and the Redhawks led 20-6 in draw controls.

The game marked the final regular season home games for the Redhawks' seven seniors and graduate students. Graduate student Tiffany Melendez and senior Maddy Walsh were honored in a pregame ceremony along with Giancursio, Tomei, Nathan, Brinkel and Simmons.

The Redhawks will conclude the regular season at No. 4 Mercy College on Saturday, May 1.
