MANSFIELD, PA. – The Roberts Wesleyan College women's soccer team has learned a lot about itself during the first two weeks of this season.
Including how to persevere.
Playing their fifth match in 13 days, the Redhawks lost a hard-fought 2-0 contest to host Mansfield University on Tuesday night.
"It was a back-and-forth game that was decided by just a few moments," Roberts coach
Sarah McClellan said. "I thought that we did some nice things and continue to improve and gain experience out there. Most importantly, we are competing and embracing adversity with a purposeful outlook."
Sophomore midfielder
Jessica Savage turned in an inspired effort for Roberts (0-4-1). Both Roberts and Mansfield attempted 12 shots, with the Redhawks putting 7 on goal compared to 6 for the Mounties.
Mansfield scored once in the first half and added a late tally in the final five minutes. Sophomore
Nicolette Knauf registered four saves for Roberts.
The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was moved to Tuesday night due to the heavy rain forecast for the Mansfield area on Wednesday.
Roberts opens East Coast Conference play on Saturday at Molloy College.
