ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College women's volleyball team welcomed American International College, Daemen College, D'Youville College, University of New Haven and Stonehill College to the first Redhawks Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
"This weekend showed that we could play against some top-level volleyball teams and be competitive," Roberts coach
Doug Porterfield said. "We know that we can fight and that we can play tough. We'll come back and get ready to play next week."
Porterfield was grateful to all who helped support the tournament.
Roberts (0-9) saved its most exciting match for last, falling in five sets to D'Youville. Scores were 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25 and 15-12.
The match was extremely close as D'Youville outscored Roberts 106-104 over the five games. Each side registered 50 kills and D'Youville held a narrow 88-87 edge in digs. The visitors did hold a 14-8 advantage in digs.
Graduate student
Emily Rowlison had a big match against D'Youville with 39 assists, 13 digs, 3 blocks and 3 aces.
Sydney Yanak paced Roberts with 12 kills, while
Lauren Norwood and
Celine Malosa added 10 each.
Teagan Weber led Roberts with 22 digs while
Victoria Rudolph added 15 and
Maya Pelayo had 11.

Weber topped Roberts with 14 digs and Rowlison added 13 assists and three blocks. Â Yanak contributed a team-high five kills.
Scores were 25-16, 25-15, 25-18.
Friday
Stonehill 3, Roberts 1
Laura Amaya recorded 11 kills and Rowlison added 11 assists to lead Roberts. Norwood added eight kills and eight digs while Weber contributed 10 digs and Malosa added six blocks.
Scores were 25-19, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-22.
New Haven 3, Roberts 0
Rowlison registered 25 assists and Weber tallied 12 digs for Roberts. Amaya had seven kills and
Lauren Norwood contributed six kills and nine digs.
Scores were 25-19, 25-24, 25-22.
