ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a wild, back-and-forth, fast-paced men's soccer game, Roberts Wesleyan and Mercy couldn't decide a winner with the homecoming game ending in a 2-2 draw at Roberts Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Roberts found the back of the net early on when
Nathan Ferguson collected a ball in the six yard box and buried it in the open net. The goal was created by sophomore forward
Tamas Nagy who beat a pair of defenders and fired a shot that rebounded off the Mercy goalkeeper to the feet of
Dylan Ruiz who found Ferguson for the goal. It was Ferguson's first goal of the season.
Mercy tied the game in the 38th minute on a goal from Archie Jones. The score remained tied heading into the halftime break.
The Redhawks took the lead again early in the second half following a goal by
Ryan Curtis in the 58th minute. It was the senior's first goal of the season and was assisted on by Ruiz.
Mercy again had the answer to tie, scoring in the 77th minute.
Both teams created goal-scoring opportunities late in the game and in the overtime periods, including a ball that appeared to have crossed the goal line and then blocked by a Mercy defender. The goal was not allowed.
Junior
Jared Gibbons stood strong in goal for Roberts making five saves.
The Redhawks will look to get its first conference win on Wednesday on the road at Daemen. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
