ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the first time in program history the Roberts men's basketball defeated the University of Bridgeport on its home court, beating the Purple Knights in a shootout, 113-105 on Saturday afternoon. It was the first win over Bridgeport since 2017.
It was a balanced scoring effort to pace the offense. Six players scored at least 15 points.
Amari Lee led the team with 19 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
Rian Carter had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Ja'Kair Sanchez,
Shane Fanning and
Kevon Wright all contributed with 17 points each.
Abou Gbane scored 16 points.
The Redhawks got out to a quick start from the tip, taking a 13-0 lead with Bridgeport missing its first eight shots of the game. Roberts was efficient from the field all afternoon rattling home 41-of-74 (55.4%) of their shots.
Roberts built a 21 point advantage in the second half, but the Purple Knights stormed back off the hot shooting from sophomore Ryo Kobayashi who came off the bench to score 31 points in the half. But Bridgeport had no answers to slow down the Redhawks offense.
Roberts is now 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the East Coast Conference. The Redhawks will travel next week to away games at Queens (Fri. 7:30 p.m.) and Molloy (Sun. 4 p.m.).
