ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roberts (7-7, 5-4 ECC) fell to St. Thomas Aquinas (15-4, 8-1 ECC) on Saturday evening, 86-81. The Redhawks fought back from a 14-point second half deficit, but STAC never relinquished the lead late in the game to get its second win of the season over Roberts.
The Redhawks used a 16-5 run over a four minute span to cut STACs largest lead of the game to just three points with four minutes remaining in the contest. A fastbreak dunk by
Abou Gbane capped off the run and was followed by a pair of blocked shots on the defensive end for Roberts, but STAC stopped the comeback attempt with a 3-pointer by Osbel Caraballo.
Kevon Wright scored 14 points for Roberts to lead the team.
Rian Carter had 13 points,
Shane Fanning 12, and
Ja'Kair Sanchez also dropped 12 points. The Spartans were led by Caraballo's 25 point performance.
Both teams struggled shooting from beyond the arc. Roberts had the slight advantage going 6-of-24 (25%), but couldn't find the range in one of the biggest aspects of their game plan.
