SALEM, W.V. – Playing a man-up for the final 14 minutes, the Roberts Wesleyan University men's soccer team generated several late scoring opportunities against host Salem University on Saturday.
Unfortunately for the Redhawks, they were unable to convert and settled for a 1-1 tie in the non-conference match.
"I think the effort was there, but our performance was just a little bit off," Roberts coach
Scott Reber said. "We had our chances to put it away, but we didn't."
After a scoreless first half, junior
Justin Robertson put the Redhawks (7-4-4) on the board in the 49
th minute with his fifth goal of the season.
"It was a beautiful goal," Reber said. "J-Rob came down the right side, we slotted it into him and he hit the inside netting."
Salem regrouped to tie the game in the 69
th minute and the Redhawks went a man-up about seven minutes later.

Jared Gibbons made five saves for Roberts.
The Redhawks have a 3-1-3 record and are currently in fourth place in the East Coast Conference standings entering the final week of the regular season. The top four teams in the conference standings make the ECC Tournament and several scenarios are still in play.
Roberts concludes its regular-season at ECC foe Mercy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Mavericks are currently third in the ECC standings.
