ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team finished fifth in the East Coast Conference preseason poll.
The Redhawks received 45 points in voting by ECC coaches. Daemen University took the top spot in the poll with 69 points, followed by Saint Thomas Aquinas with 64. Both Daemen and STAC received three first-place votes. William Muller of Molloy was selected Preseason Player of the Year.
Roberts returns three double-figure scorers –
Ja'Kair Sanchez (15.3 points per game),
Rian Carter (13.4 ppg) and
Abou Gbane (10.4 ppg) – from a team that went 9-9 and finished fifth in the 2021-22 ECC standings.
Roberts, which finished 12-13 overall last season, opens its regular season at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 against Saint Anselm College in the East Region Challenge hosted by Daemen University.
