KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team scored four goals in a 13-minute span of the first half en route to a 4-0 victory over eighth-seeded Columbia University in a pool play match at the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I National Championships on Monday afternoon.
"We had a strong start and some quality finishes," Roberts coach
Sarah McClellan said. "It was a great team win to begin the week."Â
Freshman
Ella White opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, her 12
th of the season in the 12
th minute. Classmate
Kara Choate connected for her fourth of the season eight minutes later to give the Redhawks (13-4-1) a 2-0 lead.
Junior
Gabrielle Ciambella scored in the 22
nd minute for a 3-0 advantage and freshman
Larissa Johnston scored on a header in the 25
th minute to make it 4-0.
Graduate student
Justine Sharda assisted on the goals scored by Ciambella and Johnston.
Roberts outshot Columbia 15-1 in the first half and 21-6 for the match.
Junior
Nicolette Knauf made four saves in 83 minutes for Roberts and freshman
Courtney Yencer stopped the only shot she saw in her seven minutes of action.
The Redhawks will play No. 5 Carolina University in a pool play match at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday and the championship match is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
