Bowling Finishes Third at Medaille Invitational; Burnett Claims top spot on All-Tournament Team

KENMORE, N.Y. - The Redhawks competed in the Medaille Invitational, hosted by Medaille University, on November 5-6 at Classic Lanes in Kenmore, N.Y. The format consisted of five traditional team matches and three baker total pinfall matches. Overall pinfall determined seeds for the last two matches of the day, which were best-of-7 baker matches.

On Day 1, the ladies competed in five traditional team matches, securing wins against Hilbert and Pitt-Bradford after losing close matchups with D'Youville, Medaille, and Chestnut Hill.

Leading the way for opening day was junior Mykenzie Burnett, with games of 222 and 215. Burnett finished the day with a 975 total (195.0 average), best amongst the entire tournament field, and secured the No.1 spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Freshman Amelia Ponto chipped in with a 212 game and 892 total (178.4 average), good for a 17th place individual finish. Junior Paige Barkley added a 238 game and sophomore Danielle Jaeger contributed a solid 212 game for the Redhawks.

On Day 2, the team competed in three baker total pinfall matches, opening with wins against Bryant and Walsh before falling by just one pin (912-913) against Daemen. However, the ladies earned a 4th place finish after qualifying, securing a place in the winners bracket to make a run at the championship.

In their first best-of-7 baker match, the Redhawks faced #1 seed Medaille, shooting scores of 207 and 209 to keep things tied up at 2-2 after four games. However, the Mavericks pulled away in the final two games and Roberts lost 2-4, sending them to the consolation match against Walsh. The ladies rebounded early and finished the day 4-2 against Walsh, earning the 3rd place finish at the tournament.

Amelia Ponto led the ladies on that last day, averaging 185.7 and filling 83.3% of her frames. Sophomore Luz Torres added a solid performance, averaging 180.4 and filling 77.8% of her frames.

The ladies now have an overall record of 9-14.
