FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College men's basketball team jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first half but could not hold onto it as host Queens College rallied for a 90-73 victory in an East Coast Conference game on Tuesday night.
The Redhawks (11-11, 9-8 ECC) built a 44-29 advantage in the first 18 minutes of the game, but Queens shot 65.5% from the field (19 of 29) and held Roberts scoreless for nearly a five-minute stretch while taking control of the game in the second half.
Rian Carter scored 19 points to lead the Redhawks while
Abou Gbane added 15,
Ja'Kair Sanchez 13 and
Amari Lee 11.
Roberts made 48.4% of its field goal attempts in the first half, including 5 of 8 from three-point range, but was just 10 for 31 (32.3%) and 1 of 8 in the second.
Queens (10-10, 8-10) scored 53 points in the second half and outscored the Redhawks 50-38 in the paint in the game.
Roberts, which entered the game in third place in the ECC, closes out its regular season at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bridgeport.
The ECC Tournament is scheduled to begin on March 2.
