BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to the University of Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon, 82-80 in the final game of the regular season.
The game came down to the wire with
Ja'Kair Sanchez hitting a 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining to give Roberts an 80-79 lead. Bridgeport responded with a three of their own to go up by two points. The Redhawks had the final possession with 13 seconds left in regulation and a chance to tie or win the game, but Bridgeport came away with a steal to close out the game.
Sanchez led the Redhawks with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
The Purple Knights found the majority of its offensive production from a trio of players who each scored 20 or more points. Mason Williams led the way with 26 points.
The loss pushes Roberts down to the No. 5 seed in the East Coast Conference Championships and will force the team to travel to Queens for its quarterfinal matchup. Game time is scheduled for Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 7 p.m.
