TIFFIN, Ohio – The No. 17 Roberts women's lacrosse team fell to No. 7 Florida Southern College in a neutral site game at Tiffin University on Friday afternoon, 15-10.
The difference in the game came down to free position opportunities. Florida Southern found the back of the net on 4-of-8 free position shots while the Redhawks went 0-for-6 from the eight-meter mark.
Florida Southern took advantage of its free position chances and offensive opportunities in the second and third quarters. The Mocs used a 7-1 scoring run to take a 12-6 lead over Roberts.
Despite the five-goal difference the game was played evenly. The teams were nearly identical in final game statistics.
Madison Bell led Roberts with five goals and two assists.
Alexis Grant scored three times with an assist.
Rhiannon Burto and
Ellen O'Neil each had a goal.
Florida Southern was led by Hailey Daleo with five goals.
"We played with grit, aggressiveness and heart," said head coach
Kristin Paolini. "We need to continue to play with that same mindset in every game moving forward."
Roberts (5-3, 1-0 ECC) will host Saint Thomas Aquinas on Sunday, April 3 at noon.
