SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College men's basketball team's season came to an end in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Tournament on Saturday.
Top-seeded and host Saint Thomas Aquinas College built a big early lead and defeated the fifth-seeded Redhawks 84-64.
Kevon Wright scored 21 points to lead the Redhawks and
Ja'Kair Sanchez and
Shane Fanning each scored 10 for Roberts.
Rian Carter led the Redhawks with 11 rebounds and
Amari Lee finished with seven assists.
STAC, which defeated Roberts twice during the regular season, scored 50 points in the paint and held a 24-9 advantage in bench points.
The Redhawks finish the season with a 12-13 record.
"The guys fought hard and played through some injuries," Roberts coach
Mark Saladzius said. "They were very resilient to fight back and make a run in the second half.
"I am proud of them, proud of their growth and proud of their efforts to make a run at the conference title.
"We will take a couple of weeks off to take a look at ourselves in the mirror, reflect on this season and then get back to work."Â
STAC (25-4) will play No. 2 Daemen in the championship game at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
