Redhawks Earn No. 4 Seed For ECC Tournament

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team will be seeded fourth in the upcoming East Coast Conference Tournament.
The Redhawks (10-4, 4-2 ECC) dropped a difficult 9-8 decision to host Molloy College in double overtime on Saturday and finished in a three-way tie for second place with Molloy and Frostburg State. Each team had a 4-2 record in conference play.
Frostburg State earned the No. 2 seed based on the ECC tie-breaking procedures and will host Molloy in the ECC Tournament semifinals. Roberts (10-4) will play at top-seeded Mercy (12-1, 6-0 ECC) on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Roberts went a perfect 19-for-19 on face-offs against Molloy on Saturday, but the Lions secured the victory on a goal by Brian Ford with 50 seconds remaining in the second extra session.
Roberts took an 8-7 lead on a goal by Hunter Lemieux with 5:38 left in regulation. Molloy tied the game 1:28 later and thwarted several quality scoring chances by the Redhawks at the end of regulation and throughout overtime.
Lemieux led Roberts with four goals and finished the regular season with an ECC-best 57. Sophomore Luke Delavak added two goals and Jordon Deats and Michael Pierog added one apiece. Junior Dan Doviak led the Redhawks with three assists while Deats and Reid Jackowski each finished with two.
Graduate student Mitch Streety went 10-for-10 on face-offs for Roberts and Riley Schmeer was 8-for-8. Streety and Garet Marsh each collected seven ground balls for the Redhawks while Schmeer secured six and Delavak scooped five and caused four turnovers.
Sophomore Aidan Sheehan made 13 saves for Roberts, which held a 32-22 advantage in shots on goal. Each team committed 25 turnovers.
