ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Hunter Lemieux scored 32 seconds into the game to set the tone and the Roberts Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team cruised to its sixth straight victory, defeating visiting Saint Thomas Aquinas College 24-5 in an East Coast Conference game on Saturday.
Lemieux, the reigning ECC Offensive Player of the Week, finished with seven goals and two assists was one of 12 different players to score goals for the Redhawks (9-1, 4-0 ECC), who continue to build upon the best start in program history.
"We executed and we did what we needed to do," Roberts coach Rocky Delfino said.Â
Roberts built a 13-0 lead at the half and dominated nearly every statistical category. The Redhawks held a 49-11 advantage in shots on goal, a 55-21 edge in ground balls and caused 22 turnovers.
Junior attack Reid Jackowski, who entered the game leading the ECC in points and assists, added three goals and four assists for Roberts.
Jackowski made the move from midfield to attack this season and has immediately clicked with Lemiuex.
"There's some good combinations out there, but I put them right up there," Delfino said. "They feed off of each other and complement each other well."
Jordon Deats, Ryan Prine, Gavin Marsh and Dan Doviak all scored twice for Roberts while Zach Cree, Riley Schmeer, Michael Pierog, Nate Maloney, Jacob Zimmerman and Jonathon Deats all added goals.Â
Zimmerman added two assists while Jordon Deats, Pierog and Maloney each added one. Graduate student Mitch Streety won 16 of 20 face-offs and led Roberts with 9 ground balls.
Roberts travels to play perennial Division II power Mercyhurst at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lakers were ranked third by Inside Lacrosse and fourth by USA Lacrosse Magazine this week.
Delfino has a simple message for his team, whose only loss is to No. 2 LeMoyne.
"This is your chance to shine." he said.Â
