Men's Soccer Gets First ECC Win of Season at UDC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two first half goals gave the Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team its first East Coast Conference victory of the season.

A five minute stretch was all the time the Redhawks needed in order to take down the University of the District of Columbia on the road Saturday afternoon. Roberts tallied two goals within five minutes of each other to take a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Midfielder Ollie Ardle scored the first goal of the game in the 39th minute off the feed from Tamas Nagy and Dylan Ruiz. The Redhawks used a quick counter attack following a UDC corner kick in which Ardle was on the receiving end of a back post cross. The senior placed a one-time shot in the back of net.

Just a short while later Alex Perez Vega added the second goal of the game in the 44th minute of play. Vega connected on a laser free kick from 25 yards out that found the right upper 90 of the goal.

The Redhawks defense held a strong UDC attack off the board until the 87th minute when the Firebirds headed in a ball off a free kick opportunity.

Both goalkeepers made three saves on the afternoon with Jared Gibbons picking up the win in net.

Roberts (4-3-1, 1-0-1 ECC) is currently sitting in third place in the ECC standings behind Queens and Mercy. The Redhawks will play a midweek game on the road against D'Youville before coming back to Rochester for Saturday's homecoming showdown against Queens.
