ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman guard Ryan Garwood scored 11 points in each half to lead four players in double figures as the Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team defeated D'Youville 94-80 in an East Coast Conference game on Saturday at the Voller Athletic Center.
Garwood's 22-point effort doubled his previous career-high of 11 points set on Wednesday at Daemen and he also added a career-best eight rebounds for the Redhawks (6-9, 4-3 ECC).
Graduate student Rian Carter scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half while junior Abou Gbane contributed 15 points and classmate Ja'Kair Sanchez chipped in with 14 points and a team-best five assists.
Garwood made two free throws with 8:14 remaining in the first half to give Roberts a 27-26 lead that it did not relinquish. The Redhawks led by as many as 15 points in the second half.
Roberts made 32 of its 60 field goal attempts and went 9-for-19 from three-point range.
The Redhawks return to action at 6 p.m. on Monday to face the University of the District of Columbia in an ECC game at Voller Athletic Center.
