ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a battle of the two top teams in the East Coast Conference and two regionally-ranked teams, the Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team tied Daemen 0-0 at home on Wednesday evening.
Roberts came into the contest with a 9-1-2 overall record and 5-0-1 conference mark while Daemen was 6-3-2 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference. The Redhawks remain in the No. 1 spot atop the ECC standings with one match left to go against St. Thomas Aquinas. The Wildcats still must play Mercy, D'Youville and STAC.
The tie with Daemen puts Roberts in position to claim either the first or second seed in the conference playoffs which would result in a home game for the semifinal round. The top six teams in the ECC make postseason play.
Roberts provided most of the scoring chances in Wednesday's game as the Redhawks had 13 total shots with six on target. Forward
Kara Choate totaled six shots alone with three of those on frame.
The Redhawks backline defense of
Cassidy Pearce,
Maia LaVigne, and
Emma Taylor held strong throughout the game and only allowed four shots on goal from the visitors.
Roberts will play the final game of the regular season against STAC on Sat. Oct. 28 at 9:30 am in Sparkill, N.Y.
