STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team recorded its seventh shutout in eight games and remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play with a 1-0 victory over the College of Staten Island on Saturday.
Sophomore
Ella White converted her own rebound in the 16
th minute to provide the winning margin for the Redhawks (8-1-2, 4-0-1 ECC).
Kara Choate started the play by winning a 50-50 ball off a goal kick by senior
Nicolette Knauf. Choate's pass sent White in alone on the keeper and White stayed with the play to notch her second goal of the season.
Roberts, which leads the ECC with 13 points, held a 17-2 advantage in shots and a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. Knauf made two saves to earn her sixth clean sheet of the season.
"Conference games are always tight and it is tough to win on the road," Redhawks coach
Sarah McClellan said. "Our team worked through the match and did a great job to earn another shutout."
Roberts, which is 4-1-1 on the road this season, returns to action at 5 p.m. Saturday for an ECC match at Queens.
