ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior forward
Grace Dow came off the bench to set career highs in points and rebounds and the Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team made all 20 of its free throws in a 73-69 non-conference win over Mansfield University at the Voller Athletic Center on Wednesday night.
Dow scored nine points in the second quarter and four in both the third and fourth quarters as the Redhawks (3-6) snapped a five-game losing streak.
"It was a good all-around game for us and
Grace Dow really stood out," Roberts coach
Kevin Clifford said. "She was getting good position, she was rebounding well and she started to score and that gave her more confidence."
Free-throw shooting was also crucial for the Redhawks as senior guard
Danielle DiCintio and graduate student
Georgia Haverlock each sank two in the final 45 seconds as the Redhawks closed the game on a 4-0 run.
Haverlock went 8-for-8 from the stripe and finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore
Marianna Freeman added 11 points and six rebounds.
DiCintio finished with nine points and six assists and sophomore
Grace Galgano contributed nine points and five rebounds. Roberts outrebounded Mansfield 44-41 and held a 34-18 advantage in bench points.
Clifford said he was proud of his team's effort throughout the game.
"We played hard and we played together," he said. "Winning streaks start with one, so hopefully we can build off of this."
Roberts will play its final game of the semester at 4 p.m. at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio.
