MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team hit the road for a matchup of ranked teams on Monday.
The Redhawks, ranked No. 22 in the Inside Lacrosse/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association poll, traveled to face No. 25 University of Mount Olive.
Sophomore
Annie Mulhall scored to tie the game at 2 with 15 seconds remaining in the first quarter, but the host Trojans (1-2) outscored Roberts 8-3 in the second quarter and earned a 19-11 victory.
Roberts (1-1) rallied to within 7-5 on a free-position goal by graduate student
Tori Lammes with 3:39 to play in the second quarter, but Mount Olive scored three times in the final 1:04 to take a 10-5 advantage into the break.
Mulhall led the Redhawks with three goals while
Emma Blumenstock and
Alexis Grant each finished with two goals and an assist. Lammes finished with two goals while
Tannah O'Neill-Blake and freshman
Kadie Tierney both added one. Tierney's goal was her first as a Redhawk. Fellow freshman
Ella Dossier notched her fourth assist of the season.
Junior
Sophia Podszebka recorded five draw controls and
Erin Quinn caused three turnovers for Roberts. Goalie
Shawna Lesmerises finished with 11 saves.
Mount Olive outshot 35-25 and held a 21-12 advantage in draw controls.
The Redhawks continue their February trip with a game at Lenoir-Rhyne University at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
