Redhawks Roll To Non-Conference Win At Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – Solid defense led to several transition opportunities as the Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team rolled to a 22-10 victory over Davis & Elkins in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Sophomore Gunner MacMillan scored seven goals and added two assists, senior Dan Doviak recorded six goals and two assists and graduate student Reid Jackowski added three goals and two assists as Roberts (3-1), which wrapped up a season-opening four-game road trip, continued to get production from its potent attack.
Doviak set a career-high in goals for the second straight game and McMillan equaled his career-best set in the season-opening win over Wheeling University.
"It was a combination of ball movement, working together and shot selection," Roberts head coach Rocky Delfino said while naming keys to success for the attack unit. "The defense also did a good job of pushing the ball in transition."
Roberts caused 13 of Davis & Elkin's 26 turnovers with Luke Delavak registering four caused turnovers and Parker Bossard forcing three.
Junior midfielder Jordon Deats added two goals for Roberts and Jacob Zimmerman contributed a goal and an assist. Riley Schmeer, Justin Skelly and Curtis Denison also found the net for the Redhawks. Schmeer went 6-for-9 on face-offs and freshman Isaac Marrero was 13-for-26.
Freshman Garrett Kayser made four saves in his first career start and freshman middies Garrett Cole and Sam Keens continued to impress.
"They are doing a nice job in all facets," Delfino said.
The Redhawks host Assumption University at 11 a.m. Saturday in their home opener and will welcome No. 5 LeMoyne to Rochester on March 8.
"Every road game is a battle," Delfino said. "No road games are easy, so I am happy with where we are after four games. We still have a lot to work on and now we get to go home and play a couple of tough NEC (Northeast-10 Conference) teams."
