DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Roberts women's lacrosse team outscored No. 12 Mercy in the second half of Saturday's road game, but it wasn't enough to upset the Mavericks as the Redhawks fell, 11-8.
It was a slow start on the offensive side of the ball for Roberts with the team getting off just six shots in the first half. Mercy took advantage of 14 Roberts turnovers and a 5-1 advantage in free position shots to build as much as a five goal lead in the half.
Roberts rallied in the second half, outscoring the Mavs 5-4 and holding the host team to only eight shots. The Redhawks also forced Mercy into 15 turnovers in the second half alone.
Junior Madelyn Robinson caused five turnovers and had two ground balls to lead the defensive unit for Roberts.
Annnie Mulhall and Emma Blumenstock were the top point scorers with four points each. Mulhall scored four goals while Blumenstock had two goals and two assists.
Sophia Podszebka led both teams in draw controls with nine wins. The junior also scored one goal.
Roberts (5-5, 0-1) will be right back on the field on Sunday for a noon start against St. Thomas Aquinas.
