Redhawks Roll Past Gannon

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A quick start carried the Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team to its second victory in three days.

Sophomore Emma Blumenstock scored three of her five goals in the first quarter as the Redhawks jumped to an early 5-0 lead and defeated Gannon University 18-4 in a non-conference game Wednesday on Redhawks Field.

"Offensively, we came out ready to do our job and set the pace for the game," said Redhawks coach Kristin Paolini, whose team rallied from four goals down to defeat the College of Saint Rose in the final 20 seconds on Monday.

Blumenstock, who entered the game tied with teammate Annie Mulhall for the East Coast Conference scoring lead with 20 points, finished with five goals and an assist. Mulhall added five goals and fifth-year attack Alexis Grant contributed four goals and an assist.

"The quick start is always important," Blumenstock said. "It just gives us the confidence and momentum to keep going and carry it through the game for a full 60 minutes."

Roberts (4-3) led 8-2 at the half and outscored Gannon 6-0 in the third quarter.

Paolini said Blumenstock has taken on more of a leadership role this season, both in the locker room and on the field.

"She has really has it in her head to be a leader this season," Paolini said. "She's a great cutter."

The Redhawks return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at No. 9 Adelphi.
