WASHINGTON, D.C. – Fifth-year forward
Tamas Nagy scored three times to move into a tie for third place on Roberts Wesleyan University's career goal-scoring list as the Redhawks defeated the University of the District of Columbia 3-1 in an East Coast Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
"Tamas just had a day," Roberts coach
Scott Reber said. "He did really well, but they all did. It was just a really good team win. We played really solid defense and they had us under a lot of pressure in the second half."
Nagy, who has 11 goals this season, has scored 42 times in his career, equaling the career totals of Naim Tannous (1966-69) and Howard Allen (1989-92). Dylan Ruiz, Nagy's former teammate, holds the record with 66.
Junior
Eric Jewson made 10 saves to earn his fifth victory of the season in net as Roberts (6-5-1, 4-2 ECC) avenged a 3-2 loss to the Firebirds in the 2023 ECC Quarterfinals.
"Eric has done really well for us," Reber said. "He stepped in midway through the season and has been consistent day in and day out."
Nagy opened the scoring in the 12
th minute, converting a cross by
Luke Hanes from eight yards out. He notched his second goal less than 3:30 later, burying a one-timer off a
Jack Hopson pass on a one-timer.
UDC cut the Roberts' lead in half in the 50
th minute but Nagy struck again on a sliding shot off of a feed by
Micah Cornfield in the 75
th minute. The hat trick was Nagy's second this season and the fourth of his career.
The Redhawks will play their final two conference games this week, traveling to D'Youville on Wednesday and hosting Molloy in their regular-season home finale at 4:30 on Saturday.
