Another Double-Digit Saves Effort for Avery Richardson

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Avery Richardson made 12 saves to lead a strong defensive effort for the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team Wednesday but a pair of first-half goals for Wingate University gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 victory on the Redhawks Turf Field.

Wingate (5-1) scored a goal in each of the first two quarters to build an early after holding a 14-0 shots advantage over the first 30 minutes of action.

In the third quarter, Roberts (0-8) changed the momentum and controlled play for a majority of the period and trimmed the shots advantage to just 7-4 for the 15-minute period but the Redhawks could not find the back of the cage.

Wingate regained control in the final quarter and forced Richardson to make six saves including a pair of diving stops to keep the score close.

The Bulldogs did manage a goal in the final period for the final 3-0 score.

Richardson finished with a double-digit saves total for the fifth time this season and third time in the last four games.

Roberts will play at SUNY Oswego (Saturday) and at Mansfield (Wednesday) before returning home October 16 for a home game against Elmira College.
