ROCHESTER, NY – After playing a scoreless game with a strong defensive effort from the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team, the Redhawks surrendered the only goal of the game with 1:33 left in the second 10-minute overtime period and dropped the 1-0 decision to D'Youville University Saturday on Redhawks Turf Field.
Sophomore goalie Avery Richardson made 10 saves including five in the second half and one more in each of the overtime periods for Roberts (2-11).
The game-winning goal came late in the second overtime after D'Youville (6-8) held a commanding 18-5 shots advantage for the game including a 5-1 edge in the overtime periods.
The Saints also held a 22-7 advantage in penalty corners but the defensive players on the corners for Roberts continued to make big plays to regain possession and clear the ball from the defensive zone.
Prior to the game the team honored three players celebrating Senior Day as Sierra Fernandez, Katie Krawczyk and Brooke Tangelder were recognized.
Roberts will play one more home game, Tuesday night against Nazareth University with a 6 p.m. start before closing out the 2024 season with a road game at Kutztown University Nov. 2.
