ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team closed out regular-season conference play on Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision to East Coast Conference leader Molloy.
The Lions (8-4-2, 6-0) took a 1-0 lead late in the first half and led 2-0 before Roberts converted a beautiful passing play from
Alyssa Hackett to
Mackenzie Hagen to slice the deficit in half in the 76
th minute.
The goal was Hagen's second of the season and came just days after the freshman netted the game winner against D'Youville on Wednesday.
The Redhawks (5-8-1, 3-4 ECC) generated a couple of late opportunities, but Molloy held off the charge before scoring its final goal with less than 30 seconds to play.
Redhawks coach
Jeff Vieira was pleased with the Redhawks' effort against a quality opponent.
"I feel like we can play with anybody in the conference, and they showed that today," Vieira said. "Our team has a lot of spirit and we didn't give up when we were down. I also like that we are starting to put together some of the final pieces that we have been working on in training this season."
Freshman Mya Tyndell made five saves for Roberts.
The Redhawks will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at Franklin Pierce. The first round of ECC Championship play is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6.
