DOBBS FERRY, NY – Mercy University scored twice in the first half and added three more goals in the second half to race to a 5-0 win over the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Soccer team Saturday afternoon in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game at Mercy.
The Mavericks (5-0-3 overall, 3-0-2 ECC) remained undefeated and took the early lead with a goal in the 24th minute and boosted the lead to 2-0 with less than five minutes remaining in the opening period.
Roberts (4-4-1, 2-2-0 ECC) held a 7-6 shots edge in the first 45 minutes but Mercy goalkeeper Erik Elvestad made five saves to keep the Redhawks off the board.
In the second half, the Mavericks took a 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the half before adding a pair of goals in the final 13 minutes of the contest for the final score.
Roberts finished the game with a slim 13-12 shots edge and the shots on goal were even at 8-8.
Sophomore Eric Jewson was credited with three saves in the game.
Roberts returns to action next Saturday at home against St. Thomas Aquinas College in the second game of a women's-men's doubleheader at Roberts Stadium.
