QUEENS, NY – Senior Sydney Yanak led the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Volleyball team with nine kills Sunday as the Redhawks battled hard but dropped a 3-0 decision to Queens College in an East Coast Conference (ECC) road match.
Roberts (12-11 overall, 3-7 ECC) held considerable leads in the of the first two sets but Queens (18-9, 8-2 ECC) rallied to win each of the sets by the same 25-22 score. The Knights finished the match with a 25-19 win in the third set to remain in first place in the ECC standings with a ½ game lead over Daemen. The loss eliminated the Redhawks from the ECC Tournament consideration.
Daemen has one conference match remaining (against Roberts) while the Knight have matches at St. Thomas Aquinas and Mercy to close out the regular season.
Yanak led the offense with her nine kills and fellow senior Jaycee Karelus added eight while sophomore Camryn Karelus chipped in seven kills for the Redhawks. Junior Caleigh Schroeder handed out 29 assists and senior Teagan Weber led the defensive effort with 14 digs. Junior Olivia Price had eight digs and a team-leading three aces.
The Redhawks play at Daemen Wednesday and close out the season Friday at home against D'Youville with a 7 p.m. match. The team will honor it's five seniors prior to the match.
