Haverlock Nets Career-high in Loss to Clarion

ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Georgia Haverlock seemed to take the game over on multiple occasions Wednesday night as the scored a career-high 37 points and led the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team back from multiple double-digit deficits but eventually fell 88-79 to Clarion University in the Voller Athletic Center.

The first double-digit deficit came in the opening minutes of the game as Clarion (2-1) scored the first 10 points of the game for the early lead. A free throw by Haverlock with 30 seconds remaining in the opening quarter was her first point of the game and trimmed the Golden Eagle lead to two points at 15-13. Clarion scored the final two points of the period to take a 17-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The Redhawks trailed by 10 points again in the second quarter but Haverlock scored nine consecutive points for Roberts and trimmed the lead to six points at 32-26 and another basket late in the quarter trimmed the lead further to just three points as the teams headed to the halftime intermission at 38-35.

An early run in the third quarter allowed Clarion to build another 10-point lead at 49-39. Senior Marianna Freeman completed a three-point play to cut the lead to three points at 54-51 and a steal and basket by Haverlock cut the advantage to a single point at 54-53 with 2:20 left in the quarter.

A free throw by Freeman tied the game and later, Haverlock added two more free throws to take the game into the final period with the Redhawks trailing by a basket at 58-56.

After Clarion built another lead, Haverlock scored seven straight points and freshman Erin Frazier added a pair of free throws to trim the lead back to two points at 73-71 with 2:14 to play.

Clarion did not miss a shot the rest of the game and escaped with the nine-point victory.

Haverlock scored 37 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the field with a 3-pointer and 14-of-16 free throws. She added six rebounds and three steals. Freeman scored 12 points and freshman Angalece Quinones chipped in 10 points for Roberts.

The Redhawks will travel to Lock Haven Saturday for the first road game of the season.
