KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University score in each quarter including a pair of fourth quarter goals to post a 5-0 win over the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team Saturday in the season finale for the Redhawks.
Roberts (2-13) received a season-high 21 saves effort from sophomore Avery Richardson as the Syracuse native finished second overall in the nation in saves per game with just less than 10 per contest.
Kutztown (13-4) scored less than two minutes into the game and again five minutes into the second quarter for a 2-0 lead in the first half. After firing 13 shots in the first half, the Golden Bears added 21 second-half shots toward Richardson.
The lead was extended to 3-0 with five minutes left in the third period but Kutztown added two more goals in the final five minutes of the contest for the final score.
The Redhawks finished the second season in program history with an amazing improvement statistically from last year. Roberts was outscored 103-3 in its first season but just 37-12 in season number two. Another huge improvement came on penalty corners as had a 170-28 deficit in 2023 but that number was just 166-73 in the second season.
Roberts finished with a pair of wins with two 5-0 victories and had six one-goal losses including a pair of double-overtime decisions.
