ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Georgia Haverlock scored 18 points and junior Marianna Freeman added 12 points for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team but the Redhawks surrendered a key scoring run in the second quarter and Cedarville University raced to a 75-52 victory Wednesday night in the Voller Athletic Center.
Cedarville (2-4) took and early lead but Roberts (0-5) ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 14-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.
In the second period, the team traded baskets early before the Yellow Jackets took off on a 9-0 run to open up a 23-16 edge.
Freeman connected on back-to-back baskets with a 3-pointer and a layup and Haverlock added a driving layup to cut the lead to a point at 28-27 with 2:23 left before halftime.
Cedarville ended the half with an 8-3 run to take a 37-30 lead into the break.
The Yellow Jackets continued to outpace Roberts with a 13-4 run in the third quarter to open up a 16-point lead before a Haverlock basket at the end of the period made it a 54-40 Cedarville lead heading into the final quarter.
A pair of free throws by Haverlock midway through the fourth quarter cut the lead to 16 points at 65-49 but the Yellow Jackets continued to put together scoring runs with a 10-1 run over the next three minutes to put the game away.
The Redhawks will wrap up the November schedule Saturday at home against Lake Erie College with a 1 p.m. game followed by the Roberts Men's Basketball team taking on Saint Michael's College.
