Women's Lacrosse Open Season with Loss to #6 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team wasn't able to pull off the upset of No. 6 Adelphi in the season opener on Saturday afternoon, as the Redhawks fell 18-7.

Roberts got on the board first with a goal from Annie Mulhall less than two minutes into the game. Mulhall finished the game with a team-leading three goals and one assist. It was the only lead the Redhawks would have in the game.

Adelphi used a three-goal run at the end of the first half to create a four goal lead and then extended it with another goal to start the second half.

"We knew today's game was going to be a challenging way to start the season," said head coach Kristin Paolini. "Adelphi is a top-ranked team for a reason and they showed today how strong of a team they are. We have some areas to be proud of and found several areas we will need to improve upon. We will continue to get better."

Shawna Lesmerises was strong in goal for the Redhawks with 18 saves on the day.

Roberts (0-1) will not get an easier next contest as the team will play preseason No. 1 Pace on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
