ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's volleyball team won its first East Coast Conference match in program history with a 3-0 sweep over Dominican University (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon.
The strength of the Redhawks on Saturday was their ability to close out sets. In the first set Roberts found themselves down 18-17, but the team went on a scoring frenzy with eight straight points to close out the set with a win. In the second set Roberts was down 24-23, but fended off Dominican's game point with four unanswered points to win the set 26-24. In the third set the Redhawks used a late four-point run to extend their lead to 23-18. Roberts went on to win the final set 25-20.
Roberts was able to spread the ball around getting contributions from all players on the offense. Five players had at least seven kills. Leading the way was
Jonah Grbic with 11 kills.
Noah Liousfi and
Griffin Monrad had eight kills and
Kaidan Krchniak and
Paul Fillion both had seven kills.
The Redhawks will play three games this next week with a pair of home contests. On Tuesday, Roberts will host D'Youville before hosting Kentucky State on Thursday. The team will then travel to American International on Saturday.
