GREENSBURG, PA – The Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Soccer team scored four goals in the final 21 minutes of the game including three by sophomore Myles Palmer as the Redhawks rallied from a 5-1 deficit to earn a 5-5 tie Wednesday afternoon at Seton Hill University.
Seton Hill (3-0-1) scored the lone goal in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime intermission. The Griffins added to the lead early in the second half with a goal 2:23 into the period to take the 2-0 lead.
Roberts (1-2-1) cut the lead in half two minutes later as Palmer picked up a loose ball after the goalkeeper misplayed the initial shot and knocked in his first goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game.
Seton Hill came back and score three times in the span of less than five minutes to take what looked like an insurmountable lead.
Just two minutes later, Palmer started the scoring burst with his second goal of the game on a header off a crossing pass from junior Jack Hopson.
Palmer scored again just nine seconds later off the restart as he stole a pass and split the defenders for a shot from 18 yards out to trim the lead to 5-3.
Another three minutes later a hard shot by senior Benjamin Lazcano Barros slipped through the wet hands of the keeper to pull the Redhawks to within a goal at 5-4 with less than 20 minutes left to play.
With four minutes remaining, Palmer completed his fantastic day wit his fourth goal of the game with another assist from Hopson to knot the score at 5-5.
Roberts had a slim 19-18 edge in shots and earned a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
The Redhawks return home Saturday to open East Coast Conference play with a 3:30 p.m. match against Queens College at Roberts Stadium.
