Palmer Records Hat Trick, Nagy Reaches Milestone In Win Over Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Myles Palmer scored three goals and Tamas Nagy recorded his 100th career point as the Roberts Wesleyan University men's soccer team defeated Slippery Rock 4-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon.

"It was a complete game," said Roberts head coach Scott Reber. "We played well on offense, we played well on defense and I knew they had it in them. It was just a matter of being patient and putting it all together."

Roberts (2-3-1) took advantage of a friendly bounce off the heal of a Slippery Rock defender on a throw-in to score its first goal. Nagy corralled the loose ball and fed it to Palmer, who made a move at the top of the box to go around a defender and deposited the ball into the net for his fifth goal of the season.

Nagy finished a give-and-go from Luke Hanes to notch his sixth goal of the season and 100th career point in the 33rd minute.

Palmer buried his own rebound off a header for his second goal of the game in the 60th minute following a beautiful cross by Jack Hopson. Palmer, who scored four goals in a 5-5 tie at Seton Hill on Sept. 18, completed his hat trick off a Nagy assist in the 65th minute.

"He's really coming into his own," Reber said of Palmer, who was named East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. "He's big, he's strong, he's fast and today he would just not be denied."

Nagy, who is in his fifth season with the Redhawks, now has 101 career points on 37 goals and 27 assists.

"When he came in he helped to take a little bit of the pressure off of (career goals leader) Dylan Ruiz," Reber said. "Now that we have Myles and some of the other guys up top, they are taking a little bit of the pressure off of Tamas and he continues to excel."

Roberts outshot Slippery Rock 15-4 and held The Rock without a shot on goal. Junior Eric Jewson recorded a shutout in his first career start for Roberts.

"It was nice to get him some minutes," Reber said. "He has been showing well in training and he came in and just did his thing. For him to come in and get a clean sheet in his first start, I am really proud of him."

The Redhawks return home for a Homecoming Weekend match against the College of Staten Island at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Roberts will also celebrate Senior Day before the ECC contest.
